Which IEA study evaluates civic and citizenship education?

The International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS) is designed specifically to assess students' knowledge and attitudes regarding civic and citizenship education. This study focuses on how effectively education systems prepare students to engage in civic life, develop a sense of social responsibility, and understand democratic processes. It measures not only the knowledge students possess about civic concepts and practices but also their dispositions and engagement in civic activities.

In contrast, the other studies mentioned have different focuses. PIRLS (Progress in International Reading Literacy Study) assesses reading literacy among fourth graders, while TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) evaluates the achievement in mathematics and science for students at the fourth and eighth grades. SKILLS, which focuses on aspects related to skills such as socio-emotional competencies, does not specifically target civic education either.
